Between 2018 and 2023 I had the great opportunity to build from the ground up the Art Direction for a new IP called Arc Raiders with Embark Studios, with a truly talented team in those early days, including Pontus Ryman, Robert Berg, Tahir Tanis, Esbjörn Nord, Oscar Carlen, and the many other exceptional artists that joined the fold as the years progressed. We started with an incredibly small band of artists exploring the themes of the game, and were quickly off on our adventures to capture the environments of the world we envisioned.
We captured through photogrammetry workflows we were very familiar with, while exploring new pipelines catered towards Unreal Engine 4, to greatly increase our efficiency and capabilities, retaining our small team ambitions.
In the early days of Arc Raiders, we originally explored a setting based on Iceland, and the video on display shows this work in progress. It shows a world very much in its infancy as we explored pipelines, and the game vision itself, which took numerous twists and turns along the way, but most importantly highlights the grandeur and expanse we had set out to achieve.
In 2023 I was off on new adventures myself, however I'm incredibly proud to see what the game has become upon release, and the retro-future-post-apocalypse art direction and vision we set out shining through. To see all the great artists work now on show, and receiving the praise they deserve, brings me great joy.
